Frontline is being discontinued...
MYTH! While you may hear that Frontline's patent is ending, that is a mere rumor. The active ingredient in Frontline is fipronil, which is also commonly used in larger agriculture programs. The patent for this ingredient has ended, however the combination of ingredients Frontline uses will keep its patent for many years to come.
Because its winter, my pet doesn't need flea/tick preventative...
MYTH! Just like humans, when it gets cold outside, these little parasites also try to wait out the cold in your house or on wildlife. Fleas can also lay eggs either on your pet or in your house which will not hatch until it is warm. If these eggs are in your house, it is the perfect temperature for them to hatch and get on your fuzzy companions.
You should keep your dog on heartworm preventative all year round...
True! Heartworm preventative doesn't only protect your pet from getting infected but rather helps to kill any potential worms from growing and causing problems in your animal. Making sure to keep the preventative level high will keep your pet safe. This heartworm preventative also is a dewormer. Therefore, while you are preventing your pet from heartworms, you are also protecting them from intestinal parasites. We use Sentinel because it gets a broader range of parasites, however, we carry another product called Proheart 6 which is an injection that lasts 6 months! Ask us if you have any questions!
MYTH! Indoor cats are still at risk for all sorts of things. Fleas and their eggs can be carried in on our clothing. Intestinal parasites such as roundworms can be found on our shoes, in potting soil and even in the common housefly! Mosquitoes always find a way to bite what they want to and can transmit heartworms. We recommend using Revolution for these indoor only kitties. (If your cat goes outside, we recommend Frontline Plus to also kill ticks. You should also deworm quarterly as well)
