All surgeries include preanesthetic bloodwork (to ensure that your animal will have no difficulties as a result of the anesthesia) and pain medicine, (we give pain meds at the clinic and send some home with you). Throughout the surgery (except for the feline neuter), your pet will receive fluids through an IV catheter placed in their front leg. Their surgery will be monitored by a trained staff member and charted. Induction drug protocols differ on the age and and special needs of your pet. Cat neuters and animals receiving a dental cleaning will go home the same day, declaws will spend two nights in the hospital, and all other surgeries will spend one night in the hospital.
We kindly ask that if your pet is undergoing surgery that they do not receive any food after midnight the day before the surgery and no breakfast the morning of surgery. We normally perform surgeries on Tuesday, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, however we may be able to arrange an alternate day if necessary.
